I love swifts, not just as heralds of summer, but for their genuinely amazing migration and pretty much non-stop flying, even when they’ve arrived at their destination.

I had the idea for this about six years ago and it took that long to put my money where my heart was and make it and the Littlehampton Arts Festival gave me the final push to do it.

These are hand cut, life sized swifts, in 3mm mild steel and mounted on 316 polished stainless steel rods. It is a good 2.4m tall and comprises lifesize swifts in mild steel, on polished 316 marine grade stainless steel rods.  The initial concept had it on a steel base, fixed with ground anchors, but as the venue chosen was internal as opposed to outside , I had to come up with a different base, which turned out to be some heavily weathered sleepers as a temporary base, but they work well.

This piece is for sale and can have the sleepers, a steel base, concrete or stone. I can deliver and install reasonably locally if wanted, and I’m happy to discuss any variants or ideas this piece may generate.
